Sara Howard

Radius Founder

Strategist · Storyteller · Stubborn Optimist

When I was a kid, my elementary school principal told my mom she had never met a child so preoccupied with justice.

While my focus at age 7 was primarily equitable dessert distribution, that fierce commitment to fairness – the belief that we can and must work to build a better world for everyone – has been the through-line of my life and career.

That's my center – my why – and it's what drove me to start Radius.

SARA HOWARD
Radius Founder

Sara Howard is a strategist and storyteller who has spent 25+ years providing strategic communications and management guidance for advocacy groups, political campaigns, elected officials, and nonprofit organizations at the local, state, and national level.

Sara began her career in politics, working on high-profile presidential, congressional, and statewide ballot elections. She served as primary spokesperson for multiple campaigns, candidates, and elected officials, and led the communications departments for two Members of Congress.

Elections matter – but far too often, campaigns are a zero-sum game in which winning is the only goal. Realizing she cared more about what happened after Election Day, Sara began focusing on issue advocacy, tackling topics like affordable health care, gun violence prevention, women's rights, economic justice, literacy, and racial equity.

In recent years, she spearheaded multi-million dollar research investments for Everytown for Gun Safety/Moms Demand Action, the nation’s largest gun violence prevention group; and Galvanize USA, a women's empowerment organization. She organized and led teams of opinion researchers at the vanguard of their field, drawing upon principles of neuroscience and behavioral psychology to gain a deeper, more nuanced understanding of what resonates with people and why.

Above all else, Sara's work has taught her that real, sustainable change is only possible when people work together. By leaning into her affinity for collaboration, connection, and relationship-building, Sara has seen first-hand how meaningful partnerships can dramatically expand the scope of what's possible.

Strategic thinking. Authentic partnerships. Stories that connect with people in a deep and meaningful way.

These are the skills and experiences at the heart of Radius, where Sara provides consulting services for people and organizations who are working to make the world a better place – whether that effort is in the halls of power or our own local communities.

When Sara isn't working, she spends much of her time sketching, painting, and working on personal writing – creative endeavors she regularly reminds herself are valuable for the joy the process brings, regardless of the end result. She enjoys spending time in nature – especially camping and paddling – despite her strong aversion to the heat and humidity of St. Louis in the summertime. She loves reading books and poetry, watching almost any sport, and watching Jeopardy with her teenage daughter.

Sara was born and raised in New Jersey. In the 20 years since moving to St. Louis, she has lost the accent–but retained the attitude. She lives in the Tower Grove South neighborhood with her husband, Tony and their daughter, Olivia – along with an affectionate (but spoiled) cat, and a handsome (but very loud) dog.
